The New York State Practice Improve Collaborative [PIC] is a state endorsed, provider-driven consortium of research and provider organizations committed to: improving clinical outcomes in alcohol and substance abuse treatment and prevention programs through the use of evidence-based practices; improving the conduct of research through practitioner involvement; and influencing policy as it effects research and practice at the local, state and national levels.

The PIC is comprised of a statewide advisory group, The Practice Research Collaborative, and eight regional consortia, The Practice Research Networks.

Behavioral Couples Therapy in Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Treatment

This course provides an overview of Behavioral Couples Therapy (BCT), a marital and family therapy for couples in which one or both partners have a problem with drugs and/or alcohol. This course describes the origin and basis for the treatment. It also describes the many skills used by a therapist utilizing BCT in a treatment setting. Also included are examples of how to incorporate it into treatment and video clips of "clients" involved in BCT. The course was developed using PIC funds in collaboration with the Western NY PRN and the Research Institute on Addictions in Buffalo.  It is available free of charge for individuals that are not interested in CASAC clock hour certification.  If 6 clock hour certification is desired, a fee of $35.00 will be charged.
